We all have different moral standards. Different things that we believe are right or wrong, and no matter how hard we try there is no way that we can create laws which will fairly judge every person. We have done our best, and our laws are good. They are very good, and they try to be fair. But you can’t judge everybody.
That is why people have god. Whether he is real or not, god holds us up to our own moral standards. God makes us better people, because some of us need a judge to tell us what we are doing is right(or wrong). Religion is not a bad thing, and I have nothing against people who believe in it. However, I do have a lot against religious people; people who think that because they need a guide in their lives to tell them what to do, that anyone who is making it just fine on there own internal compass is evil, or ignorant. They think that since you don’t feel the need to pray to god about each little thing you must either have rejected him, or just not heard of him yet. Well here’s a thought, I believe in god. I think he’s a great idea, but maybe the world would have been better off without him. Religion has created all sorts of prejudices that wouldn’t have been there had it never existed. For example, people think that sexual orientation is a big deal. It’s not, it’s part of who you are and should make no more difference than skin color.(or preference of ice cream) Some religions raise their children to think that all other religions are evil(and continually point out that others are obviously bound for hell). This stems from two things; the need to be right, and the need to be safe.
Why do we feel that because it is somebody else’s idea that it is wrong? Somebody else could be right, in fact, most of the time, somebody else is right. And this is where people abuse the idea of god. No matter how wrong we are, we can wave god in somebodies face and we feel right; we feel righteous. This is what holds back the world. People need to understand that change is not always bad. Change brings progress, and change is where we build on the ideas of the people before us and make things better. It makes people feel unsafe when things change, but I say that this is unnecessary. Change shouldn’t be scary at all. People see someone with different beliefs and they are scared because they might be right. The other person is so sure of their beliefs, what if they bring about change? So they say that the other person is obviously damned. They can’t possibly be right because they are different and therefore they are wrong. History is full of people with good ideas who were rejected because they were different. Galileo, Leonardo Da Vinci…millions of people who have created the greatest changes for good in our society have been rejected and torn down only for us to later find that they actually had something there. By that time they are dead, and the only thing you can do is see what they’ve written. Not all ideas are good ideas, but why not be a little more open-minded to the people who have them? Just because you try out something doesn’t mean you have to keep it. Would it be so bad if we had a new government system or new ways of living? Would it be bad for us to be accepting and helpful to everyone? People need to understand that we don’t need to be selfish to survive anymore. If everyone would take care of everyone else, we would be all right. We would be great. If countries were more like families-everyone looking out for everyone else-what would be wrong with that?
I don’t hate religion, but I have grown up with religious people in a religious community; I have seen them hurt and beat down very nice, hardworking, brilliant people (with some really good ideas) simply because they were of a different religion. Does this seem wrong to anyone else? Persecution of others in order to feel right is selfish and wrong. Persecution of others because your scared they might be right is evil, and it should be stopped. Believe however you want, but let others do it too.

Very well said. It is like they are unevolved/throwbacks. They are under the influence of kings that have been dead for hundreds and even thousands of years. Their families have used it as a survival tool for many generations. F them
